Installing the Net-tools Package on Redhat RHEL / Centos 7

The the network command line tool ifconfig is not installed thus missing by default on CentOS 7 Linux. Users are instead encouraged to use ip command to do most of the network administration work.

The route command is also deprecated in CentOS / RHEL 7 / Fedora and many other Linux distributions. You need to use the ip command instead of route command. However, it is possible to install route and other deprecated commands for compatibility reasons. The following shows how to install the route command on CentOS / RHEL 7 server:

yum install -y net-tools
